Strategic Plan

It is extremely important that when we invite people to be part of a process, they can clearly see how their contributions are being used to guide everything we do. Below, you will find a breakdown of how we unpack each statement in our Mission Statement and Strategic Directions to demonstrate how we are implementing our mission and what the results of that work are.

Our Mission

“Our mission is to pursue excellence in academics, programming, and the social and emotional development of our students.  Fostering a CULTURE of kindness, inclusion, and pride in ourselves, our school, and our community.”

Leading the Way in Literacy and Math Education

At Belle Plaine Public Schools, our commitment to academic excellence is evident in our proactive approach to adopting best practices in education. Our staff’s dedication and forward-thinking have positioned us as leaders in the state.

Literacy

Three years prior to the State of Minnesota adopting the Read Act, a small group of our staff took the initiative to research the best practices in literacy. This forward-thinking approach led to the adoption of AMPLIFY, a science-based literacy curriculum, two years before it became a statewide requirement.

What stands out most is the dedication of our elementary staff. The summer before AMPLIFY was implemented, nearly every elementary staff member came in early to undergo training and ensure they were fully prepared to start the school year. This commitment has laid a strong foundation for literacy excellence in our district.

This week we will see the impact of this change reflected in our MCA (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments) data.

  • District Reading scores are projected to increase by roughly 6.5%

  • Average cohort growth at elementary will be over 3.2%

Math

In our continuous effort to prepare students for the modern workforce, we began researching a new math curriculum three years ago. The result was the adoption of CPM (College Preparatory Mathematics) for grades 6 through 12. This curriculum is not only meeting the needs of our students but is also setting new benchmarks for success.

We see the impact of this change reflected in our MCA (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments) data.

  • District math scores are projected to increase by roughly 8%.

  • Even more impressive, two of our grade levels are expected to see year-over-year growth of more than 20% and 18%, respectively.

It’s worth noting that other districts are beginning to take notice of our success. This fall, Prior Lake Public Schools will be in their first year of implementing CPM, following in our footsteps.

“Our mission is to pursue excellence in programming…”

  • Staff advocated for the addition of college-level chemistry courses, providing our students with the opportunity to get a head start on their higher education.

  • Staff introduced a course on podcast development, which saw an incredible response with over 80 students registering. This class not only taps into the creative potential of our students but also equips them with modern communication skills.

  • Agriscience has been instrumental in implementing numerous course changes that have expanded and strengthened our students' learning opportunities, ensuring they have access to high quality learning experiences

  • Physical Education is leading a course that certifies students to become officials, giving them a practical skill that can translate directly into job opportunities after graduation.

  • Construction trades is guiding students in a course where they will build a 50x12 shed at the softball field this fall, offering hands-on experience that prepares them for careers in construction and trades.

These are just a few examples of the many ways our dedicated staff are enhancing the educational experiences of our students. Their efforts contribute significantly to our mission “to pursue excellence in academics,” ensuring that every student, whether bound for college or the workforce, has the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.

Culture is Bold, Underlined and Italicized because it is the part that is most important to me.

Might not always be able to say yes

But will always listen and work to find a solution
